Calstock Boatyard on the beautiful River Tamar

Calstock and the Tamar Valley

Calstock is a busy village with varied entertainment on offer. There is The Tamar Inn for good pub fare, the Calstock Social Club, the Village Hall and the Old Chapel for a range of entertainment.

There are many splendid walks in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The history of the valley is apparent with its limekilns and mine chimneys which are gentle reminders of the mining industry of a bygone age. There has been mining in the valley since medieval times which reached a height in the 1800s with the extraction of copper. In the height of the industrial age, there were over 100 mines along the river. A major growing area there are still fields of bulbs that bloom in the spring. The early tomatoes, strawberries and flowers sold in Victorian London often came from Calstock.

Now, the valley is a haven of tranquillity and beautiful in all seasons with its stunning scenery and rich and varied wildlife.
